Saturday November 1st

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Deb Starkings

There will be no paddling on Saturday due to the GREAT SHED CLEAR OUT.

Work on the new shed is imminent and we need to move boats, kit, fridge freezers, dining room suites etc out of the shed so the contractors can start work.  They won’t start whilst there is ANYTHING left in the shed.

All help would be much appreciated in carrying stuff to the new containers and loading trailers/vehicles to go to Walford for off-site storage and to the tip.

If we can’t empty the shed this weekend, we don’t get a new one.  Since the old one is falling down, its kind of important.  Please come and help!

Ross Warland - 30 November

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Deb Starkings

Andy, Deb & Ellie are competing in this event - although it would be nice to have some more company.   You can do it as a relay of 5 or 10 miles or the whole thing at 20.

For anyone currently wondering if they can race the distances, you are more than welcome to come training with us.  In additon to Tuesdays and Thursdays, we are going out to do the following:

Wednesday 29 October 6.30 - turning point and pack - 5 miles (55 minuts ish)

Sunday 2 November - lock and back- 7.5 miles (1:15-1:30 ish)

Sunday 9 November - Narrowboat and back - 10 miles 4 portages (2 -2.5 hours ish)

Sunday 16 November - mid-divisions race course - 8 miles 6 portages (1.5 -2 hours ish)

Sunday 23 November - lock to Maesbury - 10 miles 6 portages (2 -2.5 hours ish)

Wednesday 26 finalise team entry

Sunday 30 - RACE DAY!!!

We’re aiming at doing these distances at race pace (6mph) but since Andy has only just got back in a boat after 2 months of being damaged, we will probably start slower than that.

Coach training

Monday, October 27th, 2008 by Deb Starkings

After two weekends of hard work we now have ten Level Two Trainee coaches.  Well done to all concerned and many thanks to Phil, Darryll and Dave for steering us through it all.

But no thanks to Cleo - the canoe capsizing chocolate lab. (who is fabulous, but a liability on the gunwales of an open canoe).

Promotions round-up

Saturday, October 11th, 2008 by Andy May

The new edition of the Hasler Race Management (HRM) system is out including a consolidated set of Promotions and Demotions. There’s been quite a bit of movement within the club, so just to wrap up the recent changes:

Joseph Whittle, Connor Lambert, Ellie Barnes, Deb May, Gari Sumner and Anita Bennet have all been promoted to Div 7 at various points over the last couple of months.

This means that we now have a very strong presence in Div 7, 8 and 9. There are a still a few more people who are getting close to moving up (even if they don’t want to !) and a lot of steady consolidation for the rest of us.

Well done all.
