…there seem to be a lot of promotion congratulations recently…

Congratulations go to Ellie Barnes for being promoted to Girls C at last weekend’s sprint regatta.

She managed to get into the A finals in K1 500m and 100m, B finals in 500m and 1000m with Sarah Walters from Burton and came 3rd in the K4 over both distances!

She also got to paddle OC2 and only got slightly damp.

A good weekend’s work - especially for someone who was ill!

Our sprint team of one had a successful weekend at Nottingham last weekend.

First in the Girls D K1 500m B Final
Fifth in the Girls D K1 1000m A Final
First in the Girls D K4 500m Final
Second in the Girls D K4 1000m Final with a Wokingham/Reading Crew
She also qualified for the D K2 500m Final with a partner from Wokingham.

Well done Ellie.

There are othe people qualified for sprints (Marcus, Jack, Hayden & Cameron) so lets see if we can get a bigger team to Nottingham for the next regatta on 9 & 10 May 09.

I need entries in by 18 April. If you don’t have a qualifying time, then give me or one of the other coaches a shout and we can organise a time trial for you.

A new flat water racing calendar has now been published and the club calendar has been updated accordingly. Key changes are the revision of the sprint regattas to whole weekends and the inclusion of Leamington and Hereford haslers in May and June.

The 2009 flat water racing calendar has now been published. Selected highlights have been added into the club calendar on the blog. I have included all of the Midlands hasler races, the Sprint regattas, the descent races for next autumn and I have also included some extras - including some North West 10k races, the NW lightning events and fun races like the Ross Warland and the Reading K4s.
If anyone can provide me with entry level slalom and WWR events I will happily include them on the diary too.

Among the stack of awards for the British olympians I see that Dr Tim picked up an MBE for “services to sport”. Of course whether getting an MBE is recompense enough for everyone finding out that your full name is “Dr Jules Timothy BRABANTS” is questionable …

Ellie went.  She paddled.  Quite fast.  She won her heat and went on to 9th in Final 2 putting her 18th out of 59 in Girls D.  Not a bad start!!!

She didn’t get round to writing this up so if you want more info, you’ll have to ask her.

The Blackman girls racing in black and green also did well with Rose winning the K2 and K4 500m events.  Grace coming second in both the 500m and 100m K2 events.

Well done girls!!
